RED BULL POKE FUN AT ASTON MARTIN WITH TELLING REPLY TO LANCE STROLL CONTRACT NEWS

Red Bull's Threads account poked fun at the news of Lance Stroll's contract renewal, replying to the official announcement with an image of Sergio Perez looking shocked. The Canadian racer put pen to paper on a multi-year extension ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix.

While Stroll was delighted to confirm his new terms, the decision to award the 25-year-old a new contract was far from a surprising one, given the security that he receives thanks to his father, Lawrence Stroll's influence on the team.

Stroll hinted that an agreement between himself and the Silverstone-based team was coming "soon" ahead of the first leg of the ongoing triple header in Barcelona last weekend, and the news was confirmed ahead of media day in Spielberg on Thursday.

Speaking out after signing his contract, Stroll said: "I'm super happy to have committed to staying with the team for 2025 and beyond. It's amazing to see how far we've come in the last five years; we've grown so much as a team and there's still so much more to look forward to."

The positive feeling about the new terms was matched by team principal Mike Krack, who added: "He has played a key role in building this team and his technical feedback, alongside his committed simulator work, has helped contribute to the continuous development of the car each season.

"The consistency and stability of both Lance and Fernando remaining with our team is a great platform to continue to realise our ambitions. We look forward to creating some incredible memories and achieving further success together."

Fernando Alonso was also full of praise for his team-mate when quizzed on the new contract at the Austrian GP. "He's a very dedicated person and committed to his job," he said. "He's doing a lot of work in the simulator, he lives in the UK and that helps obviously but we've been always in constant talk about the team and about the things in the car.

"Even the last two days we've been on WhatsApp constantly after Barcelona, even Sunday night after Barcelona we exchanged quite a big text and this kind of relationship that I don't remember to have with other teammates in the past and he's been always very open and asking a lot of things in driving side, in braking techniques, different kind of circuits as well.

"I'm here in this team for a very long-term project in my life, in my career and even when I'm not driving I hope Lance takes the lead of this team and I will support him even when I'm off the wheel."
