LIVERPOOL TRANSFER NEWS: JOSHUA KIMMICH IN POLE POSITION AS ANTHONY GORDON SWAP DEAL PROPOSED

Liverpool are yet to complete a transfer in the summer window, with Euro 2024 and the Copa America the focus for many players at the moment.

Arne Slot now has his feet under the desk and is working hard to prepare for the 2024/25 season ahead. The Dutchman has his own transfer targets, but it may be a slow-burn process for the Reds.

As Mirror Football explained recently, it is expected to be a case of continuity, rather than revolution for Liverpool this summer, despite the change in regime. Nevertheless, sporting director Richard Hughes is always open to the possibility of signings, either as replacements for existing players, or if a bargain becomes available.

So here are the latest rumours from the world of Liverpool, involving both possible ins and outs.

Kimmich 'in pole position'

Joshua Kimmich could leave Bayern Munich this summer and Liverpool are among the sides being linked with the Germany star, who is currently playing for his country at Euro 2024. Liverpool will have to go head-to-head with Manchester City if they want him, according to the latest reports.

Liverpool had been interested in Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners, but TuttoJuve reports that Kimmich has now moved into pole position for a move instead. Koopmeiners was Slot’s former captain at AZ Alkmaar but is a more attacking player and Kimmich fits the bill better.

Kimmich has only a year left on his Bayern contract and reportedly doesn’t want to sign a new one, with Barcelona and Real Madrid also credited with interest. He is reportedly worth around £40million. City are also interested in RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo, who could cost £60m.

Bologna want to sell Calafiori

Liverpool are known admirers of Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori – and Mirror Football understands that the Italian side would prefer to sell to the Premier League if they are to lose him this summer.

Arsenal and Juventus are also interested in Calafiori, who played for Italy at Euro 2024 until their exit against Switzerland on Saturday and will now have to decide on his future. He is best at centre-back, but can also play at left-back, and that versatility is attractive.

Liverpool sporting director Hughes is also a known admirer of the 22-year-old, who he previously tracked during his time working at Bournemouth. The fee is likely to be over £40m because his former club Basel are entitled to 40 per cent of any sale over £5m.

Reds float Gordon swap

Liverpool could offer Caoimhin Kelleher as part of a swap deal in order to tempt Newcastle to sell Anthony Gordon.

TEAMtalk says Liverpool are prepared to bid £50m as well as Kelleher to encourage Newcastle to sell their star player. The Magpies have resisted an approach from Chelsea for Alexander Isak, but have sold Yankuba Minteh to Brighton and are selling Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest to help ease their profit and sustainability rule worries.

Liverpool value the Kelleher in the £25m-£35m range, meaning the total cost of the bid would be worth £75m-£85m. Gordon previously played for Everton, meaning there could be a backlash if he joins the red side of Merseyside.
