MAN UTD MOVE WOMEN'S TEAM OUT OF TRAINING BUILDING TO ACCOMMODATE MEN'S SQUAD

Manchester United have decided to move their women’s team into portable buildings at the club’s training ground in order to accommodate the men’s squad while their facilities are being revamped.

United announced earlier this month that work has begun on a £50 million refurb of the men’s first team building at Carrington.

The building work is expected to last for the duration of next season but while the men’s first team building is being renovated, Erik ten Hag’s players will be moved to the current building which is shared between the women’s and academy teams.

According to The Guardian, the decision to relocate the women’s squad has left some players and staff ‘disappointed’.

A source close to the squad also told the newspaper that the decision ‘added to a growing sense that the women’s team are not perceived as a priority within the club’.

The report claims that the portable buildings will include changing rooms, team meeting rooms and communal areas for the women’s squad.

United are said to have considered multiple options for relocating the women’s team but believe the decision to stay at Carrington is the best solution as the players will still have access to better pitches and off-field facilities.

Last year, United opened the £10 million state-of-the-art building for the women’s and academy sides.

In a statement announcing the £50m project this month, United warned: ‘Temporary adaptations will be made to the rest of the Carrington site to ensure players and staff from all our teams can continue to operate successfully next season.’

Speaking last week, United’s co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who completed his £1.3 billion partial takeover in February, admitted that his focus has been more on improving the men’s side after their poor Premier League campaign in which they finished eighth.

‘We haven’t got into that level of detail with the women’s team yet,’ he told Bloomberg.

‘We’ve been pretty much focused on how we resolve the first team issues, and that’s been pretty full time for the first six months.’

Last season, United’s women’s side won the FA Cup and finished fifth in the Women’s Super League.

However, it’s understood that United are set to lose Mary Earps, who is on the verge of joining Paris Saint-Germain and will become the highest paid female goalkeeper in world football.
