SCOTLAND VS HUNGARY REFEREE IS NOTORIOUS ARGENTINIAN WHO SENT OFF 10 PLAYERS IN CUP FINAL

The referee taking charge of Scotland's all-important Euro 2024 clash against Hungary once sent off ten players in a cup final.

Facundo Tello is the only non-UEFA official to referee a match at the tournament this summer thanks to a deal between UEFA and CONMBEOL to share officials.

He oversaw Turkey's 3-1 win over Georgia on Tuesday (June 18) and on Sunday (June 23) he will be the man in the middle in Scotland's final group game against Hungary in Stuttgart.

Tello's reputation for being a strict disciplinarian is justified considering back in November 2022, he brandished red cards to a whopping 10 players in Argentina’s Champions Trophy final between Racing Club and Boca Juniors.

A late winner from Carlos Alcaraz in the Champions Trophy final sparked a massive brawl in the middle of the pitch which provoked Tello to hand the goalscorer a red card as well as five Boca players and their manager Hugo Ibarra, having already sent off three players before the huge melee.

The 10 red cards caused the game to be stopped due to Boca Juniors only having six players left on the pitch which is below the minimum limit of seven. Scotland will no doubt have to be on their best behaviour and have already suffered going a man down in the tournament with Ryan Porteous seeing red for a challenge on Germany captain Ilkay Gundogan in their 5-1 opening day mauling.

The brutality of the challenge saw the Watford defender slapped with an extra game suspension, ruling him out of the Hungary clash.

Tello, 42, is accustomed to the grand stage of international football as he took charge of three matches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, including Portugal's quarter-final exit to Morocco where he was subject to scathing criticism from Porto skipper Pepe who slammed the decision to have an Argentinian referee their game.

"This is stronger than me and I'll have to say it. It's unacceptable for an Argentine referee to referee our game," the former Real Madrid star said at the time. "The feeling and arrogance of the referee on the field, I can bet everything I have that Argentina will be champions.”
