McLaren ace Lando Norris deleted a picture of Red Bull superstar Max Verstappen after posting it moments earlier on social media. Norris has become a direct rival of Verstappen this season and got the better of the Dutchman to win the Miami Grand Prix earlier this month.

Norris and Verstappen are said to get on well and share mutual friends. And on Tuesday, the Briton took to Instagram to wish Dutch DJ Martin Garrix a happy birthday. Norris included a picture that showed Garrix paddleboarding with Verstappen alongside the caption: "Sorry, haha. Miss you."

But moments later, the post had disappeared and had been replaced by a picture of Norris with his arm around the DJ and the words: "Happy birthday bro. Thanks for being you. To many more great and terrible memories."

Norris' original post had been screenshotted before it was taken down, with some fans speculating on social media that the 24-year-old driver had been told to remove it.

Norris began racing for McLaren in F1 at the start of the 2019 season when he was still a teenager and finished a respectable 11th in the standings during his maiden season. He has risen up the standings in recent years and is currently fourth this time around after racking up 83 points in the first six races.

The Somerset-born star finished third in Australia, before improving to second in China. And he clinched his first ever Grand Prix victory at the Miami International Autodrome as he finished over seven-and-a-half seconds ahead of second-place Verstappen.

Norris and Verstappen were seen partying together in the aftermath of the Miami Grand Prix after the Dutchman had told the media: "I'm very happy for Lando. It's been a long time coming and it's not going to be his last one, so he definitely deserves it today."

But Norris touched upon the risk of the duo's relationship changing in the future as he told Sky Sports: "I'm sure it will [be different]. I don't want to say in a bad way. We have respect for one another, we get along. We're not best friends, we don't text each other every day or that kind of thing.

"I look forward to it, I want to challenge him, I want to race against him, I want to battle him, because I think he's one of the best drivers ever in Formula 1. If I can prove myself against him, I'm proving myself against one of the best, and that's exactly what I want to do."
