LIV GOLFERS MOCKED AS MASTERS CHAMPIONS DINNER TIPPED TO CAUSE FIREWORKS

Golf legend Sir Nick Faldo has joked plastic cutlery will have to be used at this year's Masters Champions Dinner due to the sport's ongoing civil war between the PGA Tour and the controversial Saudi-backed LIV Golf breakaway.

LIV golfers have not been banned from playing at this year's Masters and six of them will be invited to the dinner. Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson, Charl Schwartzel, Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed and Dustin Johnson are all former Masters champions and Faldo, who won the Masters three times, is looking forward to the event.

"That is going to be a great evening," Faldo told the Telegraph. "Six of them are champions.

"There could be a few fireside stories after that. Apparently we're using plastic knives and forks this year. Just in case."

Faldo is not a fan of LIV and previously branded the tour "meaningless" and "embarrassing". He also took aim at his long-time rival Greg Norman, who is LIV's CEO, claiming he has "absolutely wrecked" his legacy.

The six-time major winner is particularly incensed by LIV's claims they are growing the game of golf and mocked the tour's viewing figures, with it revealed their TV debut on the CW Network last month only drew a 0.2 rating and was beaten by fellow CW show World's Funniest Animals.

"All this 'we're going to supercharge the excitement'. Well, we haven't seen any excitement because nobody's watching," Faldo added.

"I'm not against them. They decided the grass is greener on their tour. Fine. The gripes I get is when he [Norman] said these things about doing it to grow the game of golf.

"We've all been here 40 years or more, hang on mate. The fact is they got a ridiculous cash offer, which for some of them was the right thing to do. But as we said, it's gone very quiet. So good luck with changing the game."
