TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD HAS ALREADY RESPONDED TO JAMIE CARRAGHER’S £100M LIVERPOOL PREDICTION

Trent Alexander-Arnold has already revealed his ambitions to lead Liverpool amid Jamie Carragher ’s claims that he could go on to captain the club.

The Reds’ academy graduate has established himself as one of the best right-backs in world football since breaking through into the first-team during the 2016/17 season. He is fresh off the back of another impressive campaign for Liverpool despite the team’s troubles last term.

Regardless, Reds’ icon Carragher has claimed that Jurgen Klopp should consider moving Alexander-Arnold into midfield instead of spending £100m on a new recruit. Meanwhile, he has also suggested that the 24-year-old is on track to captain the Reds sooner rather than later.

Speaking to Redmen TV, he said: “I’m not sure, whoever you buy, whether you spend £100m on anyone, they can do much more than Trent. I think another season I’d be of the mind of saying ‘Let’s buy a right-back and put him in midfield’, because this kid is too good to not be the centre of this team. It’s his team.

“It is getting to the stage now where he is getting more mature and it will eventually become his team. He will end up being the captain.

“Take away the stuff he gets criticised for, which at times it is not great. He can improve on stuff, although he’ll never be amazing at it, so let’s focus on what he is amazing at. He’s amazing at that [midfield role], so leave him.”

Amid claims that he could be set for a captaincy role at some point in the near future, Alexander-Arnold has already suggested that he is eyeing the armband on a long term basis. Speaking back in 2021, he said: “It's about just winning things, leading the team as well in certain ways, being more of a leader on the pitch, off the pitch for the younger players.

“Establishing myself in those kind of roles as a leader would be something I've got my eye on.”

The defender has already had his wish to captain Liverpool granted by boss Jurgen Klopp on a number of occasions. He was bestowed with the armband during a Champions League showdown with Midtjylland back in December 2020.

He became the club’s youngest captain in European competition in the club’s history in the process. Alexander-Arnold, an 18-time England international, made 47 appearances for Liverpool throughout the 2022/23 campaign. In that time, he scored four goals and notched ten assists in all competitions.

Carragher is not the only man to have backed the defender for the captaincy, with Klopp’s former assistant Pep Lijnders having also done the same.
