MIDDLESBROUGH 'INTERESTED' IN SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY STAR LEE GREGORY AFTER PLAY-OFF HEARTACHE

Championship side Middlesbrough are reportedly interested in a move for Sheffield Wednesday striker Lee Gregory. The Owls striker scored 17 goals in 39 games as Darren Moore's side missed out on promotion to the Championship after defeat to Sunderland in the League One play-off semi-final.

The Daily Mail claims the Owls would not ask for a substantial fee for the 33-year-old, with him approaching the final year of his contract. Gregory came burst onto the scene at Neil Aspin's Halifax Town, in the same team that gave Premier League star Jamie Vardy his big break.

His former club Derby County and newly promoted Wigan Athletic are also reportedly keen on a move for the striker. Gregory ended the 2021/22 campaign in a purple patch, winning the EFL Player of the Month for April after scoring nine goals in Wednesday’s final ten games.

Gregory scored three times in 11 appearances for Wayne Rooney's side whilst on loan last season. The Rams are now preparing for life in League One after their relegation from the Championship and the former Manchester United boss sees Gregory as an ideal man to lead the line.
