Barry Ferguson admits he is 'buzzing' at the thought of what Michael Beale's Rangers team could look like by the end of the summer.

The Light Blues boss has already been busy in the market with Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling joining on pre-contracts from Norwich City and Chelsea. The duo checking-in comes quickly off the back of the club announcing the departures of five out of contract stars. Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield and Filip Helander have all moved on as the new era in Govan officially kicks into gear.

The former Rangers skipper has done research on the two new players and is a big fan of what he sees. Sterling's attributes has him wondering about a potential three at the back due to the top form of fully fit John Souttar in the final run-in and it is a prospect that has him 'excited' at the thought of the system.

Reading between the lines, Fergie believes the fact the budget is set in stone regardless of Champions League qualification tells him the board are willing to throw the kitchen sink at the recruitment this summer to dethrone Celtic and he claims kicking Ange Postecoglou off his perch would 'make it all the sweeter'.

Writing in his Daily Record column, he said: "The Rangers boss is getting on with his own business with Dujon Sterling the latest new arrival from Chelsea. Having done a bit of research on the lads, I like what I see.

"He’s strong, powerful and can play in a number of positions which makes me wonder if Beale might be toying with the idea of going with a back three next season, with Sterling and John Souttar on either side of Connor Goldson.

"I’m excited at the thought of it, especially with the way Souttar is looking now that the big man is back to full fitness. But, most of all, I’m buzzing at the thought of what this team is going to look like when Beale’s summer shopping spree is over.

"It feels like we’ll be seeing comings and goings every other week between now and the start of the next campaign because the manager clearly wants the vast majority of his squad in place for the first day of pre-season training. James Bisgrove has also gone on record as saying the budget will be set in stone whether Rangers qualify for the Champions League next season or not.

"That tells me the board understands they have to let the manager throw the kitchen sink at it this summer to get Rangers back to the top of the Scottish game. And if that means knocking Postecoglou off his perch at Parkhead, it would make it all the sweeter."
