Not for Aston Villa the trials and tribulations of relegation battles on the final day of the season. There might have been, had Steve Gerrard stuck around too much longer. Instead, Villa sacked the Liverpool legend, hired Unai Emery as head coach... and haven't looked back since.
So, instead of looking over their shoulders on Sunday, the Villa players can contemplate European competition next season, but it is still not a given.
After drawing at Liverpool last time out, the highest position Villa can finish in is seventh, and they can guarantee their place in the Europa Conference League with a win over the Seagulls.
If Villa draw with Brighton, they will still finish in seventh as long as Tottenham do not better their result against Leeds and Brentford do not beat new champions Manchester City.
