HUDDERSFIELD TOWN TRAVEL INFORMATION FOR WEMBLEY PLAY-OFF FINAL AMID RAIL STRIKE WARNING

Huddersfield Town fans will be making travel arrangements en masse after their side reached the play-off final with a late victory over Luton Town on Monday evening, setting up a Wembley meeting against either Nottingham Forest or Sheffield United with a Premier League place on the line on Sunday 29th May.

Trains will be running to London regularly on the day with those setting off from Huddersfield facing changes at Leeds, Wakefield, York and Manchester Piccadilly. However, fans looking to use the railways should be aware that industrial action by RMT conductors is planned on Transpennine Express services on the day of the final.

That should not affect services running into London but may have an impact on services from Huddersfield to Leeds and Manchester Piccadilly. The National Rail website advises: “If you’re planning to travel on a day affected by RMT strikes you should check for updates up to the last minute, as services may be subject to short notice changes. You should also allow extra time for journeys as services will be far busier than normal.”

It adds: “Please check back nearer to the time of travel for the strike days from Sunday 22 May onwards as journey planners are not yet reflecting the reduced timetable.”

The last trains back to Huddersfield via Manchester and Leeds respectively depart Euston station at 20:15 and Kings Cross at 20:35. The final is a 4:30pm kick off and would finish around 6:30pm if the game were to be decided in normal time, but extra time and penalties might make things tight for fans to get back into central London to get their trains home with public transport taking a minimum of 36 minutes from Wembley on quiet days. On the day of the final it could take longer. There are however trains back to Leeds timetabled for 21:05, 21:35 and 22:35, with the last trains to Manchester setting off at 21:25 and 21:51.

The cheapest return tickets currently available from Huddersfield to London are priced at £126. Alternatively, Huddersfield Town are planning to run coach services going from Huddersfield to Wembley and back on the day. Further details on that will be available in due course.
