NOVAK DJOKOVIC ADMITS TO TOUGH CONVERSATION WITH WIFE AHEAD OF WIMBLEDON

Novak Djokovic can't explain why he's defying his wife's wishes by playing at Wimbledon this year.

The Serbian star recently had to forfeit a quarter final at the French Open due to a torn meniscus that ended up requiring surgery, reports the Express. Djokovic's wife, Jelena, queried her husband's reasoning for competing at the prestigious tournament when he has already secured seven trophies there.

Some may also be left scratching their heads as to why he isn't devoting more time to being fulled prepped for the Olympics - the one title that has escaped him during his career. Djokovic even confirmed in earlier statements how fired-up he is to compete in the Games.

When FOX News asked why he's participating in Wimbledon, he said sitting out the competition was "just not correct" as he didn't want to skip it while he was able to play.

Djokovic said: "My wife also kind of asked the same question, right? Which is normal. (You are) 37-years-old, you want to maybe have less risk and prepare yourself for the Olympic Games?

"So from that perspective, I don't have an answer to that, but I do have something that is described as a feeling of not missing out at a grand slam while I can still play and while I'm still active and at this level."

Djokovic added: "(But) I wouldn't call it a fear of missing out. I would just say it's this incredible desire to play, just to compete, particularly because it is Wimbledon, the tournament that always has been a dream tournament for me when I was a kid.

"Just the thought of me missing Wimbledon was just not correct. I didn't want to deal with that."

Djokovic is scheduled to return to SW19 on Tuesday when he takes on Czech star Vit Kopriva in the first round. His match is due to take place against the world number 123 at 11am.
