BIANCA ANDREESCU HAS LEARNED THE VALUE OF GRIT AND NEVER GIVING UP

Bianca Andreescu has made an impressive return to the WTA Tour from her latest battle with injury and has revealed the secret to her good touch.

Andreescu claimed her sixth win in seven matches since making her comeback after the French Open.

She had spent nine months out of action with a back injury that could even have ended her career.

Andreescu has returned to form in her comeback as she rollicked into the Libema Open final in Rosmalen.

The Libema Open final will see Andreescu will be out to win a championship match for the first time since her 2019 US Open win.

Andreescu was able to reach the final at Hua Hin last season before her season was marred by injury.

On her way to the semi-finals in Holland, the Canadian dealt with Eva Vedder, No 6 seed Yuan Yue, and former WTA World No 1 Naomi Osaka.

Naomi Osaka handed tough draw in blockbuster Berlin opening round

The former world No 4 stormed into the final after defeating Hungarian qualifier Dalma Galfi 6-4, 6-2 and she believes that this run is the result of a lot of hard work over the months that she has been out of action.

Having suffered from persistent injuries since her greatest triumph in New York five years ago. Andreescu put an awful lot of time into making sure that she was ready to return.

“It feels great,” Andreescu said of reaching the Libema Open final.

“I believe that all the heard work that I’m putting in and the perseverance and never giving up is really paying off.”

Andreescu was dominant in her service games and ruthlessly efficient on her break chances giving Galfi no chance to even get into the match at all.

While Galfi managed one break but that was in order to draw level with the former Word No 1 at 2-2 in the first set and while she would generate another three opportunities to break the Canadian she was unable to convert any of them.

Andreescu broke Galfi in the opening game of each set and looked in control for much of the match.

She appeared to get a little jittery towards the close but held on to secure the result.

“I think I played very good throughout the whole match,” Andreescu said.

“The conditions weren’t easy and she played really well at times. I saw that she was a bit injured, which obviously doesn’t help. So I just tried to stay focused until the end and I just never gave up.”
