WIMBLEDON LINE JUDGE ACCUSED OF 'SNITCHING' ON STAR BY BBC COMMENTATOR

Wimbledon star Thiago Seyboth Wild was reprimanded by the umpire during his clash with British youngster Paul Jubb after the line judge caught him swearing. Play was paused midway through the fourth set with Jubb leading 6-1, 6-3, 6-7(6), 2-2.

Jubb had just hit a winner to take command of the game when his opponent hit the deck because he slipped.

A line judge heard obscenities come out of the Brazilian's mouth and walked over to the umpire.

"Uh oh. Has he used a swear word or something? Or is that a personal matter in some way?" BBC commentator Andrew Castle pondered.

Seyboth Wild was issued with an unsportsmanlike conduct warning by the umpire and he lost the following point.

"That's a case simply of the linesperson hearing something that the umpire didn't," Castle continued.

"I know that's the rules and fair dos, but does she really need to go toddling over to the umpire and report that?

"I'm never totally convinced if I'm taking the player's point of view, I have some sympathy, he's just fallen on his backside and lost a break of serve.

"I suppose there is no such thing as context. If he's said those words then he's said those words and she should go and report it."

Seyboth Wild complained to the umpire but was met with a ferocious response.

"If there's something going on with you then it's her job to let me know," the umpire scolded the player.

Co-commentator Nick Lester warned that players can be defaulted if they don't watch their words carefully.

It happened in Dubai this year in the most strange circumstances who was actually defaulted," he added.

"He was playing Bublik and was deep in the third. He lost his marbles, nothing happened but the line judge heard and he was defaulted."
