TEAM GB 'SNUBBED' AT OLYMPICS OPENING CEREMONY AFTER TECHNICAL ERROR IN RAIN-LASHED EVENT

The opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris was met with a technical hiccup when a giant screen went blank due to heavy rain. Fans who were eagerly waiting to see Andy Murray and his Team GB mates on the big screen were left disappointed as the weather played spoilsport.

As the four-hour-long ceremony progressed, the rainfall in Paris intensified. Supporters from around the world had flocked to the French capital to witness the athletes, viewing the event on massive screens set up near the Eiffel Tower.

However, those hoping to catch a glimpse of tennis ace Andy before his final competitive match, or any of his fellow Team GB stars, were left high and dry. The reason being, the rain caused one of the screens to malfunction just an hour into the ceremony.

The BBC's coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony on Friday night was also met with criticism from viewers just minutes in.

The ceremony, which featured an array of dazzling performances from the likes of Lady Gaga and athletes sailing down the River Seine, was unfortunately marred by the unpredictable weather. Viewers took to X, formerly Twitter, to voice their complaints, with one user saying: "Can't quite hear over the rain #Olympics #OpeningCeremony".

Another frustrated viewer wrote, "You can hear the rain over the music and singing...did anyone thought about giving them individual mics and mic receivers so the world can hear what's going on or more for whoever is watching on the Seine? #OlympicGames #olympics #OpeningCeremony."

A third viewer simply asked, "Why is the rain louder than the music? ? ? #Olympics #OpeningCeremony #bbc". Elsewhere, various accounts echoed the same complaint with comments such as: "I can hear the rain louder than the music/singing... #Olympics #BBCOlympics"; "Why can I hear the rain more than the opera singer! ? ! ? ! #Olympics #OpeningCeremony." Another wrote: "This is embarrassing. Can't hear her sing because of the rain! #Olympics."

Others tweeted: "Someone should turn off those outside mics where you can just hear the rain #Olympics". Meanwhile, another fan added: "The rain is louder than the music #Olympics," and another fan added: "Shame about the rain being picked up on the microphone #OpeningCeremony #Paris2024 #BBCOlympics."

Clare Balding hosted the show in studio, joined by Rebecca Adlington, Michael Johnson and Chris Hoy. But soon they mentioned a sudden shift in weather when they all had stepped off the red carpet as it began to rain.
