LIVERPOOL REACH ‘FULL AGREEMENT’ TO SIGN MAC ALLISTER FROM BRIGHTON FOR ‘WAY LESS’ THAN £60M

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have reached a “full agreement” with Brighton and Hove Albion over the signing of Alexis Mac Allister.

The Reds quickly turned their attention to Mac Allister after dropping out of the race for Jude Bellingham, who is set to sign for Real Madrid.

Mac Allister has enjoyed a fantastic year for Brighton and Argentina in 2022/23. The World Cup winner helped the Seagulls qualify for the Europa League.

His recent form is now set to earn him a move to Liverpool. They are likely to sign two or three midfielders this summer and Mac Allister is set to be their first recruit in that position.

Romano took to Twitter on Monday morning to reveal a “full agreement” has been reached between all parties over a contract for Mac Allister.

The transfer guru adds his deal will run until 2028 and ‘Liverpool will pay his buy-out clause in the next days’. This is ‘way less than the reported £60m fee’ and he will have his medical in the next couple of days.

A more detailed report comes via Phil Joyce of The Times. He reveals Liverpool are ‘hopeful of concluding a deal this week’. The report adds.

‘A release clause in the 24-year-old’s contract means the transfer should progress smoothly, although the value of the deal remains uncertain with a range of fees from £45 million through to £55 million and also £61 million having been previously published.

‘Mac Allister signed a new deal last October, extending a contract that would have otherwise expired this summer, before helping Argentina win the World Cup in Qatar.

‘While it is unusual for Brighton to include a release clause in their player’s contracts, the fact remains he could have been available for free ‘without that agreement even if it appears his price tag could be below his current market value.’

The report also points out that Man Utd ‘had also looked at’ Mac Allister’ but the player made it clear that his ‘preference’ has always been to join Liverpool.

United have ‘diverted their attention’ to Mount, while Mac Allister’s versatility makes him a ‘key signing’ for Liverpool.

Joyce also claims Liverpool are ‘following’ Nice’s Khephren Thuram and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.

‘Mac Allister is the current focus, but Liverpool will also seek other signings in midfield with availability and price shaping their decision making.

‘The club has followed Nice’s Khephren Thuram and Romeo Lavia of Southampton among others, with James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain having left Liverpool on free transfers.’
