'RED BULL ASK FIA TO INVESTIGATE NEW MERCEDES FRONT WING'

The technical development of a Formula 1 car is an ongoing process throughout the season. Teams regularly incorporate updates to get more performance out of their cars. As such, Mercedes seems to have taken a step in the right direction with a modification to its front wing. But Red Bull doubt the legality of the Silver Arrows' update. The Austrian racing stable has even reportedly asked the FIA to investigate it, Italian Formu1a.uno reports.

The Italian medium states that, according to sources close to the team, Red Bull engineers are taking a close look at Mercedes' new front wing at the factory in Milton Keynes. An unofficial investigation request was even reportedly submitted by the Austrian team.

Bending of front wing appears to be the problem

The reason for Red Bull's growing doubts is said to be because of the flexing nature of the new Mercedes front wing. According to the reigning world champion among constructors, the wing bends more than allowed at certain pressures.

Mercedes showed good form at the past Grand Prix in Canada. The German team competed at the front all weekend, with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton eventually finishing third and fourth respectively. James Allison, Mercedes' technical director, recently spoke with great enthusiasm about the progress Mercedes had made. He labelled it "an important part in their development".
