LEWIS HAMILTON TO LOSE SECOND F1 DREAM IN TWO DAYS AS BOSSES 'ABANDON PLANS'

has lost a second F1 dream in a matter of days as bosses walk away from a potential race in South Africa. Hamilton is a big backer of the event and recently admitted it would be a "dream" to race in the continent.

However, F1 bosses are understood to have walked away from a race at Kyalami over political issues. According to RacingNews365, the decision to axe the possible venue was made because South Africa has aligned itself with Russia.

Original talks for a race stalled due to financial details involved in the deal. However, 777, a sports investment company had taken over as promoter and there was optimism a deal could be sorted.

The decision not to press ahead with a race in Kyalami will likely mean the Belgian Grand Prix remains for another season.

The classic circuit at Spa-Francorchamps has been under threat with bosses only agreeing to a one-year extension last season. The Kyalami circuit last hosted a Grand Prix 30 years ago with Nigel Mansell taking victory in 1993.

Earlier this season, Hamilton told ESPN that he had been actively campaigning for a race in South Africa. The Mercedes driver admitted he was speaking to bosses at the stop of F1 to "make the race happen" in a desperate attempt to visit fans in the continent.

He explained: "Yeah I've been chatting about having a race in Miami and the next one I've been talking about is South Africa and that's what I'm pushing for in the background so hopefully you'll see that come to light soon as well.

"It's a real big dream for me to race in South Africa, and race in Africa in my career is a huge, huge dream for me. I know I have a big following out there and I know a lot of people are into Formula One now there so I'm pushing as hard as I can in the background and I'm going high up to make sure we have that race happen."

The blow comes just days after Hamilton seemed to end his chance to complete another F1 goal. The seven-time champion revealed he was likely to sign a new contract extension at Mercedes despite previously claiming it would be a 'dream position' to drive at Ferrari.

Hamilton has refused to be drawn on rumours linking him to a £40million move to the Scuderia. Instead, he has continued to pledge his allegiance to the Silver Arrows and hinted talks would continue early this week.

After the race, the 38-year-old explained: "I haven't signed anything yet, but I think we are meeting with Toto tomorrow [Monday] so hopefully we can get something done."
