UFC STAR IAN MACHADO GARRY REMAINS UNBEATEN WITH POINTS WIN OVER MICHAEL 'VENOM' PAGE

Ian Machado Garry kept his unbeaten record intact with a points win over Michael 'Venom' Page at UFC 303.

The 26-year-old was supposed to be fighting at the same event as his countryman Conor McGregor, but the UFC legend was forced out of his comeback fight against Michael Chandler after breaking his toe. Page, 37, was competing in just his second UFC fight after impressively beating Kevin Holland in March.

Chants of “MVP” echoed around the T-Mobile Arena as the Las Vegas crowd backed the Brit when the fight got underway. Garry caught a kick from Page and took him down just over a minute into the opening round. The Irishman came close to tapping Page out with a rear-naked choke but the Brit defended well and escaped the position.

Page was getting the better of Garry on the feet in the second round and beating him to the punch, but was losing the fight whenever Garry took him to the ground. Garry smiled in recognition after Page connected with a big right hand and just missed the target with a follow-up flying knee.

Garry knew that he needed to take Page down in the final round and was able to get the Brit's back but didn't do much with the position. All three judges scored the fight 29-28 in favour of Garry, who said after his win: "Nothing surprised me, I knew how good and talented he was. The key to victory was about patience, I wanted to finish him in the first round but he defended it well.

"You've got to come in here and plan for every single scenario. MVP had a great gameplan and I did want to prove that I was the better striker, but we knew it would be better to grapple. I just want to let everyone know, I am coming for that world title. I'm 15-0 and I will get that belt."
