WHY DUNDEE UNITED VS RAITH ISN'T ON TV AS CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE BLOCKBUSTER FACES BLACKOUT

Raith Rovers will travel to Tannadice for a top of the table showdown with Dundee United - and the result will go a huge way to determining the fate of the Scottish Championship trophy.

However, the sold out showdown will NOT be shown on TV - with an alternative fixture picked up by the BBC for their Friday night football slot. The broadcaster can beam 20 live Championship games for the BBC Scotland channel per season - with the Friday night fixture becoming regular viewing for Scottish football fans. Many assumed the showdown in the City of Discovery would get the nod.

Jim Goodwin's side sit just one point clear at the top with pressure mounting on the boss following last weekend's draw with Inverness Caley Thistle - while Raith have played a game less that their rivals. Ian Murray will look to move to the summit and the automatic promotion spot without needing their game in hand.

But with tickets like gold-dust for the blockbuster clash, Airdrie's visit to Ayr United has been picked for TV. Scott Brown's men will look to move away from the relegation zone with a win over the Challenge Cup winners in the 7.45pm kick-off at Somerset Park on Friday.

It leaves Dundee United vs Raith in the TV dead zone on Saturday. Football in the UK is not allowed to be televised from 2.25pm to 5.25pm on a Saturday.
