WAYNE ROONEY UNHAPPY WITH BBC PUNDITRY ROLE AND MAKES GARY LINEKER FEELINGS CLEAR AFTER EURO 2024 EXIT

Wayne Rooney has suggested he's unhappy, with the BBC pundit flying home from Euro 2024 after working for the broadcaster at the tournament.

The Three Lions icon confirmed on Wednesday that he'd be jetting away from the competition to start his new job as Plymouth manager.

Rooney has impressed fans during his time as a pundit, with the Manchester United and Everton icon providing a unique insight.

But the 38-year-old has now suggested he's not had the best time in Germany, simply branding the experience 'okay'.

"Yeah, it's been okay. Obviously, it's different and new to what I've been used to," he told the Football Daily podcast.

"I've done TV in the past but [I've] spent quite a bit of time here, so yeah it's been a bit different but I've enjoyed it.

"Unfortunately, I haven't had any of the England games to talk about really and the games I've done haven't been the greatest but it's nice to spend some time here."

The BBC provided coverage of England's matches against Serbia and Denmark, with ITV broadcasting their 0-0 draw with Slovenia on matchday three.

Rooney was, however, snubbed by the Beeb for their matches.

For England's 1-0 win over Serbia, Gary Lineker, Cesc Fabregas, Rio Ferdinand and Micah Richards were all selected.

Lineker was joined by Ferdinand, Richards and Brentford boss Thomas Frank for the 1-1 draw with Denmark.

Lineker has caused controversy with his constant criticism of England at the tournament so far, even branding one display 's**t'.

Gareth Southgate and Harry Kane have both issued responses to the 63-year-old.

And Rooney has admitted he's found it an intriguing experience to be working alongside Lineker and other critics, too.

"Obviously a lot of the tournaments over the last 20 years I've been involved in as a player and now being on the other side and seeing the perspective from a pundits point of view," he said.

Rooney has, however, appeared to defend Lineker.

"We've seen the back and forward between the England camp and the pundits, so it's a bit strange," he added.

"But I think everything that's been said has been right really and the players and the manager have come out and all said the same things.

"So it's a bit strange.

"You always want to try and be careful but also want to be truthful with the words you give."

Rooney is now looking forward to getting started at Plymouth.

On Wednesday, they learned their fixtures for the season - with ther club set to play MK Dons in their Championship opener on August 3.

And Rooney can't wait to get to work.

"I fly home tomorrow, the lads are back in on the third of July, so I'll be home and straight down to Plymouth," he said.

"The excitement was there today when you see the fixtures.

"You look through the opening games, your Christmas schedule and stuff so yeah really excited."
