SUNDERLAND GOALKEEPER ANTHONY PATTERSON WINS FA CUP AWARD AMID PREMIER LEAGUE INTEREST

Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson has won an FA Cup award amid growing Premier League interest in the Black Cats academy graduate.

Patterson has won the competition's Save of the Season award, with his double save in the fourth round draw away at Premier League Fulham earning 67% of the votes on their official Twitter poll.

The 23-year-old saw off efforts from Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, Birmingham City's Nathan Etheridge and Sheffield United shotstopper Wes Foderingham to win the award.

Patterson has established himself as Sunderland's number one goalkeeper across the last two seasons and was recently called up to the England under-21 squad ahead of this summer's European Championship in Romania and Georgia.

His form has caught the eye of recently relegated Leicester City, as well as Premier League side Wolves, with both clubs said to be keen on a summer move for the North Shields born 'keeper.

However, Chronicle Live understands Patterson is in in no rush to leave Wearside and he is among a core group of young players manager Tony Mowbray plans to build his side around next season.

Patterson helped the Black Cats back up promotion from League One by reaching the Championship play-offs and he is understood to be happy about the prospect of building on that foundation next season.
