SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY FINALISING LOAN FOR PREMIER LEAGUE GOALKEEPER

Sheffield Wednesday are finalising the details of a loan move for Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper James Beadle.

The 19-year-old, who spent the second half of last season at Hillsborough, is understood to be set for another loan spell in Sheffield imminently.

Beadle Set for Sheffield Wednesday Return:

Beadle joined Sheffield Wednesday in January 2024, after spending the first half of the season at then-SkyBet League One outfit Oxford United.

He made 19 Championship appearances for Danny Rohl’s men, cementing himself as the Owls’ number one during the tense run-in. He is now set to return to the Steel City, becoming Wednesday’s seventh summer signing in the process.

Joe Crann, a reporter from Sheffield-based newspaper The Star, understands that the finer details of the loan move are being ironed out, with the hope being that the switch is completed within the next 48 hours.

The England under-21s shot-stopper has made 56 senior appearances, despite not turning 20 until mid-July. His 28 at Oxford brought nine clean sheets, before he managed to secure eight shutouts for the Owls.

Busy Summer for The Owls:

If the Beadle deal is sealed in the coming days, as it is expected to be, he will become Sheffield Wednesday’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window.

Rohl and his staff have already secured the services of experienced ‘keeper Ben Hamer, left-back Max Lowe, AFC Bournemouth forward Jamal Lowe, former Southampton man Yan Valery, Polish winger Olaf Kobacki, and Bundesliga 2 midfielder Svante Ingelsson.

The Owls have also sealed new contracts for star players such as Barry Bannan, Liam Palmer, Josh Windass, and in recent days Daniel Iorfa.

A Promising Young Goalkeeper – Opinion:

James Beadle is certainly an exciting prospect. He shone in Sheffield Wednesday’s relegation escape last season, after an impressive spell in the division below.

Looking in from the outside, it seemed an important bit of business for the Owls to agree a deal for Beadle ahead of the 2024/25 season, as he continues to grow and develop. He is the latest in a growing list of positive moves Rohl’s men have made during the off-season.
