PRESTON NORTH END BID FOR PETERBOROUGH UNITED STAR REJECTED

Preston North End have had a bid for Peterborough United club captain Harrison Burrows rejected after the 22 year old after an impressive 2023-24 season.

The League One Player of the Season has been subject to much transfer speculation so far this summer and Preston North End are the latest club to have thrown their hat into the ring for the Posh left-back. Despite making a bid for Burrows, Peterborough have rejected it in the hope of receiving a higher offer from elsewhere.

Harrison Burrows – a one club man

Burrows has spent the entirety of his career with his boyhood club. At six years old, he joined the Peterborough academy before eventually signing his first professional contract in 2019.

The 22 year old made his professional debut for the Posh in August 2019 at the age of 17 and hasn’t looked back since. He was a member of the side that won promotion to the Championship in the 2020-21 season, making 21 appearances and scoring one goal.

Burrows then gained valuable experience within England’s second tier after making 37 appearances and scoring 3 goals during the 2021-22 season. That began Burrows’ position as a key member of the Peterborough side throughout a number of League One promotion tilts.

Last season, the full-back took over the club captaincy in January and captained the side to EFL Trophy success. Burrows scored two goals in six minutes in the dying embers of the game to beat Wycombe Wanderers 2-1, having been a spectator the last time the club won the trophy in 2014.

The 22 year old has made 185 appearances for his boyhood club so far and scored 20 goals which has led to him becoming one of the hottest prospects in the EFL.

What would Burrows bring to Preston North End?

The full back had an impressive season last year which saw him win the League One player of the season despite his club missing out on promotion from the play offs.

Burrows is what many describe as a modern day full back given his tendency to get forward and have an impact higher up the pitch. The 22 year old showed this in the 2023-24 season having scored 6 and assisted 14 goals.

His desire to get forward is highlighted by him winning possession in the final third 0.39 times per 90 minutes on average, which was amongst the best from his position across the league. The left back created an average of 2.63 chances per 90 minutes for Peterborough and completed 2.04 successful crosses per 90 minutes.

Burrows also combines his attacking quality with his defensive abilities as well. He won a total of 204 duels across the season at an average of 4.66 per 90 minutes. The defensive ability of the 22 year old is emphasised in 6.43 recoveries of possession made per 90 minutes on average.

Burrow’s all round quality at such a young age puts him in a great position to develop and improve as a player for these clubs before hitting his prime age. Having completed five seasons of men’s football at the age of 22 provides him with vital experience which when coupled with his leadership qualities, having captained the side for the second half of the season, is likely to lead to a successful return to the Championship.

Preston North End have joined a host of other Championship clubs including the likes of Portsmouth, Coventry City and Sheffield United in the race to sign Burrows. The Blades have been at the centre of much of the talk surrounding the 22 year old but until their takeover of the club is sorted, cannot make a concrete offer for the full back.
