NOTTINGHAM FOREST 'EYEING' £4.5M-RATED WOLVES DEFENDER AS SUMMER TRANSFER BUSINESS PLOTTED

Nottingham Forest are said to have taken an interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Conor Coady as they plot their summer transfer business.

The 30-year-old spent the season on loan at Everton, but they have decided not to take up the £4.5 million option to buy clause included in the deal. With Coady’s future at his parent side uncertain, the Reds are reported to be one of the clubs keeping tabs on developments.

Coady has emerged as a potential target for Forest, according to the Daily Mail. Newly-promoted Sheffield United are also linked with the Wolves man but a loan is said to be preferred by the Blades.

Forest already have a number of centre-backs on the books ahead of the 2023/24 season. However, they are likely to need to make decisions about the futures of some of them this summer as several have little more than 12 months left on their contracts - with this about the time when clubs weigh up whether to offer fresh terms or cash-in before risking players leaving as free agents.

Joe Worrall, Scott McKenna, Steve Cook, Willy Boly and Felipe all have deals due to expire in 2024, as does Loic Mbe Soh, who joined Guingamp on loan in January. Cook has already said a call will need to be made about what happens next with him, having been left out of the 25-man Premier League squad for the second half of the campaign.

Head coach Steve Cooper has indicated there will be changes to his squad in the off-season, with incomings and outgoings expected. But the business done will not be on the same scale as that which the Reds undertook 12 months ago.

Coady made 25 appearances during his spell at Goodison Park, scoring two goals. He struggled for game time after Sean Dyche took charge of the Toffees but did play the full 90 minutes of the final-day 1-0 win over Bournemouth which secured survival. The Mail report if former boss Frank Lampard had remained at the helm, Everton would likely have taken up the option on the defender.
