MARCUS RASHFORD ‘DELIGHTED’ AS SECOND SOURCE CONFIRMS MAN UTD STAY, WITH FORWARD REJECTING CHANCE TO REPLACE WORLD’S BEST PLAYER

Marcus Rashford looks set to remain a Manchester United player for the long run after his desire to stay at Old Trafford was reiterated by a second source, with one of the club’s Champions League rivals left severely disappointed in their transfer pursuit.

Rashford has completely turned his fortunes around after his troublesome campaign in 2021/22, during which he only managed five goals and two assists in 32 outings. New boss Erik ten Hag has helped the attacker to get back to his best and he has put up 30 goals and 11 assists in 56 appearances this term. Those impressive numbers have made this season the most effective of Rashford’s career.

The Englishman, who either operates at left wing or as a central striker, is thriving thanks to the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen providing him with plenty of opportunities.

Rashford has also formed a great partnership with full-back Luke Shaw on the left flank.

Despite Rashford having a brilliant year, his future at Man Utd has been uncertain for a while. He has stalled on a new contract, and with his current deal set to expire in summer 2024, this has resulted in Paris Saint-Germain casting admiring glances in his direction.

PSG are unsure whether Kylian Mbappe – arguably the world’s best player at this moment in time – will stay in the French capital or push for a move to Real Madrid.

Rashford is one of the few players in the world who might be able to replicate Mbappe’s influence, should the Frenchman swap PSG for Real this summer.

But Rashford will not be heading to Ligue 1 to replace Mbappe. On May 31, Fabrizio Romano revealed he ‘expects’ Rashford to renew his terms at Man Utd. The transfer guru added that both the player and his club ‘want’ the new deal to go through.

Marcus Rashford ‘will stay at Man Utd’ – source

And The Sun have now also confirmed that the 25-year-old is hoping to stay with his boyhood club. They quote a source as saying: “Marcus is staying at United. He was waiting to see if the club  got in the Champions League and now they have, he is delighted.

“He loves playing for Ten Hag and believes he has delivered on all of his promises.”

Man Utd will have been hoping to have added either the Europa League or FA Cup to the Carabao Cup they lifted earlier in the season. But a Europa League quarter-final defeat to Sevilla and an FA Cup final loss to rivals Manchester City have left the Red Devils with a sole piece of silverware this campaign.

Rashford will be hoping to have another excellent season in 2023/24 to help Man Utd go one step further and challenge City for the Premier League title.

But what is clear is that Man Utd cannot keep putting so much pressure on him to score goals. They must add a high-quality new striker to their ranks this summer to replace the likes of Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst.

Recent reports claim Randal Kolo Muani and Rasmus Hojlund are both on Ten Hag’s radar, while fellow target Harry Kane has recently been courted by Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag is set for showdown talks with one of his Man Utd stars after they spoke about their desire to play more often.
