LOUIS REES-ZAMMIT GIVEN NFL HOPE AFTER JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS' POOR START TO NEW SEASON

Louis-Rees Zammit has been given a boost of making the Jacksonville Jaguars' roster after a disappointing start to the NFL season.

Ex- Wales rugby international Rees-Zammit was initially picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs after impressing in the NFL's International Player Pathway Program earlier this year. He played in all of Kansas City's preseason games as a running back and special teams player.

However, he was let go at the end of training camp when the roster was reduced to 53 players. The Jags gave Rees-Zammit a second chance after he cleared waivers, transitioning him to wide receiver and adding him to the practice squad.

With only three professional football games under his belt, "Rees Lightning" will need to patiently hone his skills before getting an opportunity. However, with the Jags suffering a second consecutive defeat on Sunday, the door may be opening for him to get some playing time this season.

Following a lost lead against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1, the Jags suffered an 18-13 defeat to the Cleveland Browns on home ground at TIAA Bank Field. Former No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence completed just 14 of 30 passes for 220 yards without a touchdown, and the quarterback didn't mince words in his evaluation of the Jags' poor offensive performance.

"It's pretty shocking to me. We had a great offseason, a great training camp. We've got to figure it out," Lawrence stated firmly, highlighting the need for internal reflection within the team. "[We need to] look at ourselves in the mirror and see what we can do better. It's on all of us. We all have to look at that and just put emphasis on communication. It's day one stuff. It's simple stuff."

Despite facing his share of detractors since his move to the NFL, Louis Rees-Zammit remains determined and unfazed, as he made clear in his conversation with the BBC post his Jaguars induction. "I don't really care about haters," Rees-Zammit declared confidently.

"They can say what they want behind their phones, behind their laptops making comments. "I don't listen to that kind of stuff. I know what I've got to do to be successful and they can write all they want. I'm working really hard on this dream and I've got to try and do as much as I can every day to be a better football player and a better person."

The Jags are preparing for their return to the field in Week 3's Monday Night Football, where they face a formidably challenging game away against the Buffalo Bills (2-0).
