EX-SWITZERLAND STAR RAMON VEGA LAYS DOWN CHALLENGE TO TV PUNDITS GARY LINEKER AND ALAN SHEARER
Ramon Vega has laid down a challenge to TV pundits Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer ahead of England’s Euros quarter final.
Former Switzerland defender Vega says he will happily join them in the studio just to see their faces as he predicts his nation will knock out England on Saturday. Vega, who knows Shearer from his playing days and Lineker through Tottenham, says he will happily eat an English dish if England win but fully expects them to eat a Swiss dish if his nation comes out on top.
Ex-Tottenham defender Vega said: “I would love to be in the studio with those guys, both Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer, just to see their faces! I’ve been following their comments and what they have been saying throughout the tournament and let’s see what happens now."
“We believe we will win but I’ll bring the best Swiss cheese, the finest raclette cheese, and they can eat that when Switzerland win. I’ll happily eat fish and chips if England win - but, don’t worry, it won’t come to that!”
Vega also says Granit Xhaka should be regarded as one of the best midfielders in Europe. Switzerland captain Xhaka is confident of overcoming an injury scare after undergoing a scan on a thigh issue and is enjoying a renaissance after joining Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
Vega said: “If Xhaka was not in midfield, about 40 to 50 per cent of the energy and spirit would be gone from the Switzerland midfield.

“If you took him out it would be a huge blow because he was brilliant for Arsenal, has done superbly well at Bayer Leverkusen and is such a great leader for Switzerland. He really does not care what people say outside of the camp because he is focused on Switzerland and his team mates. There is so much respect.
“Xhaka is one of the best midfielders in Europe. What he has done with Bayer Leverkusen, and I hate to say it as a Spurs fan, but also what he did with Arsenal is just remarkable.
“He deserves so much respect and there will not be many better in the Euros. What a player and leader.”
