ERLING HAALAND TIPPED TO SMASH PREMIER LEAGUE RECORDS AFTER STUNNING START TO SEASON

Erling Haaland has been branded a “beast” and backed to break every Premier League goalscoring record this season.

Manchester City striker Haaland has scored nine goals in the opening four games of the new season, including three hat-tricks. Haaland's double in City's 2-1 win over Brentford at the weekend too his total tally for the Blues to 99 goals in just 103 games.

Former Arsenal and Chelsea defender William Gallas said Haaland is in “beast mode” and reckons the Norway striker will rewrite the Premier League record books this season.

“I’m watching this player and thinking 'this is a guy who is in beast mode',” said Gallas. “Nine goals, two hat-tricks, four games. Wow!

“I don’t know if he has set himself any individual targets, but he looks like he is going to break every single goal-scoring record in the Premier League this season. It’s impossible to predict how many goals he will get this year, but you can say with confidence that it will be loads.

Pep Guardiola has got his team firing early. I don’t know what he has said to his players, I would love to know, but every single one of them looks on it. Whatever he has said to them has had the desired effect.”

Gallas, who won back-to-back Premier League titles with Chelsea under Jose Mourinho, said it was remarkable how City have managed to win four in a row and have their sights set on making it five this season.

“People need to understand how difficult it is to win one title, then it’s even harder to win the second,” Gallas told Prime Casino.

“With every title you win, it gets harder to keep doing it. Four in a row. That’s an insane achievement for many, many reasons. For the players to do that, mentally and physically, the sacrifices that they make. It’s unbelievable.

“Normally, when you’re a player that has won the Premier League, a champion, you ease your way into the first games because you know that the season is long. These guys have done the opposite. It looks like City don’t want a tight title race this season.”

Gallas also reckons City midfielder Rodri would be a worthy winner of the Ballon d'Or – but also tipped Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr to take the award.

“I think there are two outstanding candidates this year - Rodri and Vinicius Jr,” said Gallas. “It should be between those two players, and I would give it to Rodri, but Vinicius Jr, what he did for Real Madrid this season, and the fact that he is a goal-scorer, perhaps that gives him the edge.

“I would love to see the defenders and the defensive midfielders given more recognition in the game. If you don’t have players like this at the top of their game, then the strikers and the attacking players can’t do their thing. Players like Rodri give those guys the freedom to express themselves.”
