Bayern Munich talisman Thomas Müller will decide on his own on his future at the club and talks will "definitely be brief" if he wants to play for another year, board member for sports Max Eberl said on Friday.
"He doesn't need to negotiate too much. If he says he wants to continue, then we'll look each other in the eye, look at the squad and then it will continue," Eberl told reporters on Friday.
"And if he perhaps says, ‘I don't want to do it anymore', okay, then it will continue for us too and then we'll have to see if we can continue Thomas somewhere else so that he can help us."
"This will probably be the shortest conversation. We've already spoken to him. We've basically postponed it to the future and it'll just be a case of looking him in the eye and saying: Hey, are you still up for it? Do you want to? What role do we have? And then we'll move on."
Forward Müller, 35, has been at Bayern for nearly 25 years, is a fan icon and has won countless titles with them, highlighted by the 2013 and 2020 trebles.
He said earlier this week that nothing is decided yet. A decision on his playing career could depend on this year's Champions League final which is played in Bayern's home stadium.
"He's a figure of identification for Bayern Munich and will remain one. He's experienced everything with this club. He's extremely important for us. The talks with Thomas will definitely be brief, but it's still some way off," Eberl said.
Müller is among several Bayern players whose contracts expire on Junn 30, with others including left back Alphonso Davies, veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and midfielder Joshua Kimmich.
