‘DETACHED AND DISCONNECTED’ MAN UTD MAN GIVES CLEAREST INDICATION YET THAT HE’S LEAVING THIS SUMMER

Harry Maguire gave the clearest indication yet that he’s on his way out of Man Utd by showing that he’s become ‘detached and disconnected from the rest of the group’.

The Red Devils have enjoyed a positive first season under Erik ten Hag with the Dutchman guiding them to a top-four Premier League finish, a Carabao Cup trophy and the final of the FA Cup.

But Maguire has enjoyed it less with the England international falling down the pecking order this season with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane emerging as Ten Hag’s preferred centre-back pairing.

Maguire has come in for a lot of criticism over the last couple of seasons, sometimes unfairly, and Ten Hag’s decision to pick Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw ahead of him shows that the former Sheffield United defender has no place in Ten Hag’s plans.

PSG, Inter Milan, AC Milan, West Ham, Fulham, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Tottenham are among those being linked with a possible move for Maguire.

Despite his bit-part role, Maguire was kept on as club captain by Ten Hag but Chris Wheeler in the Daily Mail claims he witnessed a disconnect between the Man Utd defender and his team-mates after they lost 2-1 to Man City in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Wheeler wrote in the Daily Mail:

‘Maguire remained on the bench and then, oddly, took off his tracksuit at full time. But he didn’t mingle with the rest of the players, commiserating with them and trying to raise spirits as a captain should.

‘Maguire stood forlornly by the United dugout talking to technical director Darren Fletcher, detached and disconnected from the rest of the group.

‘It has been sad to watch the decline of a good player and a good man, but the bottom line is that Maguire doesn’t fit into Ten Hag’s plans.

‘Not unless he is happy being fourth-choice centre back. Just 16 starts in 62 games tells its own story. Maguire, 30, is still good enough to play for his country, and as he reports for England duty next week he will know this cannot continue.

‘United, too, must find a solution and get Maguire a new club even if they have to pay him £10million to go.’

A report last week claimed that Man Utd are prepared to pay as much as £10m of his salary in order to sell Maguire in the summer transfer window with the Red Devils looking for around £30m to sell.
