BRISTOL ROVERS PROMOTION HERO SET FOR NOTTINGHAM FOREST SWITCH

Former Bristol Rovers promotion hero Elliot Anderson is reportedly closing in on a switch to Premier League side Nottingham Forest after a bid was accepted for his services.

The Scottish midfielder is currently contracted to Newcastle United, but now looks destined to swap the northeast with the Midlands, ahead of the start of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

Anderson is due to undergo a medical with Nottingham Forest in the coming days before the deal can be officially signed by all parties involved.

How has Anderson fared for Newcastle United?

Anderson made his Newcastle United debut in 2021 and has remained as a squad option for the club throughout his time as a professional football, excluding the one loan campaign he had with Bristol Rovers.

In total, the midfielder has made 55 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side, with 26 of those arriving during the previous campaign, before an injury saw him miss several months of the season.

However, journalist David Ornstein has now reported that a fee has been agreed with the two sides, due to the impending FFP deadline and a medical will commence in due course.

Becoming a hero at Bristol Rovers

The Scottish midfielder joined then-League Two side Bristol Rovers on a six-month loan deal during the second half of the 2021\22 season.

Anderson contributed to 13 goals in 21 appearances for the club, including playing a starring role as Bristol Rovers secured promotion to the third tier on the final day of the season, following a significantly large victory against Scunthorpe United.

He’s since returned to Newcastle United, where he’s featured in the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.

Will this transfer benefit Anderson’s development?

The 21-year-old was reduced to being a squad option for Newcastle United throughout the previous few seasons and could face the prospect of being a regular feature at the City Ground.

However, Nottingham Forest does have several attacking options both within the squad and out on loan, which could impact the amount of game time that Anderson is likely to receive next season.

Therefore, moving to the City Ground can be considered as a significant risk by Elliot Anderson, but this does also grant him the opportunity to prove himself in a new home, which could make him a better footballer.
