A board confidant has savaged ‘free loader’ Jesse Lingard after an official West Ham decision in the wake of his Al-Ettifaq defection.
There has been intense speculation about whether West Ham will or won’t hand Jesse Lingard a short-term deal of late.
The 30-year-old midfielder has been training with the Hammers for a month with a view to signing a permanent contract.
Yesterday Hammers News reported on comments from Lingard’s lawyer in court which confirmed West Ham were considering signing Lingard.
But he also stated his client had ‘other offers in the pipeline’.
Well last night West Ham fans found out what one of those offers was.
The midfielder posted a picture of himself in first class on a flight to Dubai.
And transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano reported that Lingard had left West Ham’s camp to go and train with Saudi side Al-Ettifaq for a month with a view to joining Steven Gerrard’s outfit.
“Jesse Lingard has joined Al Ettifaq on training valid for one month — as he’s still available as free agent,” Romano said.
“Up to Lingard and Ettifaq if they want to proceed together, Steven Gerrard will be key to decide too.”
Now a board confidant has savaged ‘free loader’ Lingard after an official West Ham decision in the wake of his Al-Ettifaq defection.
Sean Whetstone, whose sources include West Ham vice-chair Karren Brady and co-owner David Sullivan, claims the Hammers have now officially ended all interest in Lingard.
And he has accused the free agent of using West Ham.
“After enjoying free accommodation, free transport, free food and free training from West Ham Jesse Lingard has flown off to Saudi Arabia to join Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq for one month of warm weather training in the hope of landing a contract,” Whetstone said.
“The move comes a day after his drink drive court appearance where he was banned for 18 months and fined £57,000.
“West Ham have officially ended all interest in the money motivated free loader.”
It comes after David Moyes had repeatedly praised Lingard’s improving fitness levels, including in his pre-Liverpool press conference on Friday.
But it must also be noted that the same West Ham board source cast doubt over a Hammers deal for Lingard earlier this week by claiming the chances of a permanent contract were ‘diminishing’ unless Moyes planned to use him as a striker.
Now it seems the Lingard saga, which saw him snub West Ham for Forest last summer, is finally – and officially – over.
