ASTON VILLA CLOSE TO SIGNING TEENAGER

Aston Villa are close to signing Celtic teenager Aidan Borland, according to journalist Scott Burns.

What’s the latest on Villa and Borland?

Villa were linked with a move for Borland just last month alongside Premier League rivals Leeds United. Football Insider said that both top-flight sides were plotting a move for the wonderkid, who is regarded as one of the best young prospects to emerge from Celtic’s academy in recent years.

It looks as if owners NSWE and sporting director Johan Lange have made good progress in recent weeks, with a transfer update now emerging.

Burns, a reliable reporter for The Daily Record, shared a transfer update regarding Villa and Borland in the last 24 hours. He stated that the Midlands club are closing in on a deal for the Hoops youngster. Burns described Borland as a talented teenager and added that Villa are likely to try and strike a deal which will include future add-ons as Celtic are entitled to training compensation.

Borland to become the next Scottish youngster at Villa Park?

Villa have a recent history when it comes to signing young players from Scotland, with defender Kerr Smith making the move to the Midlands from Dundee United back in January 2022.

Young striker Rory Wilson followed suit from Rangers last summer and has already penned a professional contract at Villa Park. He’s been labelled “a future Aston Villa No.9” by the club’s academy manager and took his tally to 11 goals in 16 games earlier this month, so Borland could become the latest Scottish starlet to look to progress through the Bodymoor Heath academy.

The club clearly like to look at the Scottish market on a regular basis and Borland, who has already featured in Celtic’s U18s at the age of 15, could well end up becoming a future first-team player at Villa Park, hopefully alongside Smith and Wilson.
