ARSENAL STAR JORGINHO MAKES PREMIER LEAGUE HISTORY IN NORTH LONDON DERBY WIN

Jorginho's booking in the North London Derby made history as the Premier League registered the most cards in a single matchday.

The Italian's yellow card against Tottenham was the 60th shown to players across the weekend, including 59 yellows and one red, earned by Southampton's Jack Stephens against Manchester United.

According to Opta, it beats the previous record of 59 cards picked up across matchday five last season - with teams offering up a feisty weekend as a huge chunk of the cards were dished out to Chelsea and Bournemouth players.

Six Cherries stars went into the book at the Vitality on Sunday while Chelsea picked up eight bookings - as that game alone became the record for the most number of cards seen in a Premier League game with 14.

That figure had beaten the previous record of 13, which happened in Tottenham's 2-1 win over Sheffield United last season. That game came on the same matchday five where the previous record for most yellows was registered.

Jorginho was one of three players booked for the Gunners in their 1-0 win over rivals Spurs, along with William Saliba and Jurrien Timber. Tottenham picked up five bookings as goalkeeper Vicario, defenders Mickey van de Ven and Destiny Udogie went into the book along with Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.

The North London Derby is always filled with tension and passionate moments so it was was expected that fans would see bookings in that game, but the aggressive nature of Chelsea and Bournemouth's clash raised eyebrows.

However, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said he was not concerned about the amount of yellows his side hade picked up and said a game of this nature could result in more bookings.

"It's not a problem this amount of yellow cards," Chelsea manager Maresca said after the match. "It is what it is."

"I complained about a foul on Wesley Fofana which for me was quite clear but it can happen," he told Sky Sports. "Eight yellow cards probably because these sort of games are about duels and fight and this can happen. It is not a problem for me with this amount of yellow cards. It is what it is. Sometimes the game demands the way you have to behave."

"I will not talk about the referee," Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola added. "I have been talking and it is not working so I have decide now I will try the opposite and see what happens."
