5 LAST-GASP NEWCASTLE TRANSFERS THAT WOULD GIVE EDDIE HOWE A DREAM DEADLINE DAY

It's not been an easy ride for Newcastle in the transfer market this summer but there are five deals that Eddie Howe's side can make to secure a dream end to the summer window.

The head coach left Newcastle fans disappointed when he confirmed the club cannot sign a centre half - as well as a right winger - this window plunging the fanbase into minor despair. Howe has also claimed it has been one of his most difficult transfer windows in his time with the club.

PSR rules saw a scramble to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh in June to raise cash and avoid breaking financial restrictions. However Lewis Hall has made his loan from last season permanent, Lloyd Kelly and keeper John Ruddy arrived on free transfers and the club picked up Greek keeper Odysseas Vlachodimos amid further PRS complications.

Despite the Newcastle faithful's deflation at their summer activity there are some deals that could still happen between now and the 11pm deadline on Friday night to salvage their business this summer. Mirror Football takes a look at what deals Eddie Howe and his team could pull off to make it a transfer window to remember.

Marc Guehi: IN

Newcastle's interest in the Palace defender has rumbled on all summer long. The club have made several separate offers for the Eagles star but all have been rejected so far.

Chronicle Live understands that discussions are still ongoing with Palace and the door is not completely closed on the deal despite Guehi being named captain of Palace for the new season. However, the England centre-back could cost Newcastle over £70m if they want to prise him away from Selhurst Park.

It's a hefty chunk of the warchest to blow on one player but Guehi is seen as the transformative player they need over at St. James' Park. Newcastle's defence is a priority this season after being frequently coming under pressure last year and the Geordies are in need of experienced, English upgrades meaning Guehi is viewed as their number one target this summer.

Raheem Sterling: IN

It would be one of the shocks of the window but Raheem Sterling is in dire need of a new club after being frozen out at Chelsea by Enzo Maresca. GiveMeSport are reporting that Howe is said to be interested in the 29-year-old with the winger currently at the centre of a complex swap tussle between Manchester United and Jadon Sancho.

However, if that deal is deemed too complicated to get off the ground, it's thought that Newcastle could take advantage and offer Sterling a Premier League life-line. Despite budget limitations, the Magpies are also reportedly interested in Sterling's two Chelsea team-mates, Noni Madueke and Axel Disasi - however completing deals for all three at this late stage feels like it could be a step too far for the club.

Martin Dubravka: OUT

Dubravka has been linked with the exit door this summer after the arrival of Ruddy and Vlachodimos. However, Howe has retained his services for now and even named him ahead of his summer signings last week.

After playing Dubravka against Brest in pre-season, Howe said: "I thought Martin did really well today and he’s a really valued member of our squad." However it's thought that Newcastle could be prepared to cash in on the player who had a short and disappointing loan spell at Manchester United last season.

Newcastle currently have five shot stoppers on their books. A move for the Slovakian international could be in the best interests of all parties should the Magpies find a buyer before 11pm on Friday.

Kieran Trippier: OUT

The defender - who retired from England duty earlier this week - is unsettled, wants a fresh start and Everton are said to be still interested in the player. Speaking on the situation with the seasoned full back, Howe said: “My wish is that he stays. But I can never answer with absolute certainty. He continues to be really valued by all of us."

However, It's believed the player wants out of St. James' Park with the former England right back also attracting interest from West Ham, Atalanta and Galatasaray. Bayern Munich bid for Trippier back in January but Newcastle deemed their £13million offer as not acceptable, however any such bid that now comes in could be considered by the club as Trippier looks to continue his career elsewhere and Newcastle look to cash in.

Mohamed Simakan: IN

While Newcastle's preferred option is securing Marc Guehi to bolster their defence there is an alternative in highly-rated RB Leipzig's Mohamed Simakan. Simakan is a versatile defender who can play centre back and at right back, and Newcastle are one of many clubs interested in securing his services ahead of the transfer deadline.

The 24-year-old Frenchman, who is believed to have a €70m (£59m) release clause at Leipzig, has attracted the attention of a host of clubs around Europe this summer. Liverpool are thought to be Newcastle's main rivals for the player, according to Sky Germany, but it's said that the Reds have cooled their pursuit of the defender potentially leaving the Magpies to have a free run at Simakan.

Whether Newcastle can add some class to their squad ahead of tonight's deadline remains to be seen. However Speaking to Sky Sports recently Howe gave reason for Newcastle fans to hold onto their hats as the transfer season heads to its climax, saying: “We are still looking for one or two players that can make a difference for us. We’ll never stop until the window shuts to try and add to the group."
