Harry Brook will develop his international captaincy credentials by leading Northern Superchargers in the Hundred this summer.
Brook, 25, is viewed as Jos Buttler’s successor as England’s white-ball captain when the time for change arrives, and will get the chance to add to his experience at domestic level after being appointed by new Superchargers coach Andrew Flintoff.
‘It's an honour to captain Northern Superchargers, and I'm really excited for it,’ Brook said.
‘It's always special to play at Headingley and to represent the area, and to do that as captain in The Hundred this year will be extra special.
‘I really like the look of the squad we've formed, and I think there's a lot to be excited about. I can't wait to work with Freddie and the rest of the group and hopefully it'll be a year to remember.’
Brook was captain of the England Under-19 team and also took Yorkshire to finals day of the Vitality Blast during a four-match streak wearing the armband in the absence of David Willey two years ago.
Last summer, he struck the fastest hundred in the Hundred’s limited history, finishing with 105 off 42 balls against Welsh Fire in Leeds.
In contrast to other England players, he has regularly been available for the ECB’s 100-ball-a-side competition, averaging 39.38 with the bat in 19 appearances.
However, his availability will be affected this year as the first week of matches clashes directly with England’s third Test against West Indies at Edgbaston.
Trent Rockets visit Headingley on the first day of the Test and Southern Brave are scheduled to head north on its last, meaning Brook’s 2024 debut is likely to be against Oval Invincibles in London on August 2.
